Story Focus
Understanding that focusing on our inner Christ selves helps us to change our thinking and increases our ability to not only help ourselves but help others as well.
Metaphysical Interpretation
This story talks about what to do when something happens to mar a happy situation. When things appear to go wrong we can get caught in the doom and gloom of the situation rather than focusing on the power of God within us. Running out of wine at the celebration was a big problem but Mary called on Jesus to correct the situation. We, too, need to remember that our inner Christ is always with us to help us overcome any challenge. When we allow our Christ presence to be in control our needs are always filled. Also the blessings and ideas that come from our inner Christ are superior to anything we can dream up with just our mortal mind.
Spiritual Points
• The power of God's love has the power to transform our lives.
• We must remember to go to God first in every situation.
• Focusing on our inner Christ helps us to bring forth our best selves.
• Being of service to others blesses everyone. |

The purpose of this activity is to do explore the power we have to transform our thoughts and words.
Supplies Needed
• Clear plastic cups, 1/child
• Clear pitcher of water
• Opaque pitcher
• Red, sweetened powdered drink mix |
|
|
Add the red drink mix to the opaque pitcher before you start the activity with the kids. |
|
|
• As you talk about the story and how Jesus changed the water to wine, relate it to the power we have to change our thoughts from negative to positive.
• Invite the children to share how they change their thoughts.
• Stress the power of how looking for the good in all situations and/or blessing the situation helps us to transform (change) how we feel about the situation.
• Have the children watch you pour water into the opaque pitcher. Invite each child to give their blessing to the water and pour each child a glass of "water." (The children may be surprised when the clear water turns out to be colored). |
|
|
- What surprised you about this experience?
- How does the change in the water represent how your thoughts can change?
- What part does where we focus our attention play in changing how we feel about something?
- What part does prayer have in this experience?
- How does looking for the good affect our lives?
